The Prince of Wales feathers is the heraldic badge of the Heir Apparent.   It is not the badge of a specific Prince or Duke. It consists of three feathers behind a gold coronet. A ribbon below the coronet bears the motto – “Icj dien” which is German for “I serve”

The badge is thought to have originated with Edward the Black Prince – ruler of Wales.
