Princess Diana was given a sapphire brooch by the Queen Mother as a wedding gift when she married Prince Charles in July 1981

Originally, Diana wore the brooch, but she was not a fan of brooches.  She changed the brooch as a centre piece of seven rows of pearls.  Princess Diana continued to wear the necklace even after her divorce and it was passed onto her sons after her death.
